June 2006

1) 59 names entered into the Early Bird Registration Lucky Draw. The winner is THOMAS TONG. Thomas will receive 2 IC2006 Gala Dinner tickets and a bottle of Champagne. Congratulations!

2) The DEADLINE for IC2006 Registration is JUNE 30. All registrations and payments must be received on/before that date.


May 9, 2006

2) The early bird registration ends on May 15, after which date the registration fee is $150.  If you have registered and not yet sent in the payment, please do so before May 15 to be eligible for the lucky draw of 2 Gala Dinner tickets and a bottle of champagne!

3) IC2006 invites Wahyanites of 80 years of age or older to be the guests of honor at the Gala Dinner on Saturday Aug. 19.  If you wish to attend, please forward your name, contact information, date of birth and year of F 5 graduation to ic2006@wahyan.ca before June 30.

4) WYK Class 59 will have a reunion at IC2006. Please contact the local Class Coordinator Dr. Anthony Chow at tonychow@interchange.ubc.ca


April 2006

1) Fr. Deignan, Principal George Tam, Principal Norman So and the two Student Ambassadors, Alwin Wong (WYHK) Angus Lee (WYK) will attend IC2006.

2) Class 58 and 59 will have a class reunion at the Conference. There will be about 20 Class 58 coming to Vancouver.

3) Organized Class reunions: 1958, 1959, 1964, 1965 and 1968.

4) Vancouver Class 65 will host a reunion dinner for all Class 65 on Thursday Aug. 17 at 5:00 pm. The details will be announced later.

5) River Rock Casino Resort Guests: Upon arrival at Vancouver International Airport , please contact the hotel at 604-247-8900 for complimentary transfer to the hotel ( Shuttle bus or RICHMOND TAXI).

January, 2006

An invitation has been forwarded to Rev. Fr. A.J. Deignan, the Superior of Jesuits in Hong Kong and Supervisor of Wah Yan Colleges, to attend The 10th Wah Yan International Conference 2006. Some Wahyanites, including the class 1963, are sponsoring a number of Jesuit Fathers to attend the Conference. The list includes Fr. Foley, Fr. Farren, Fr. Doyle, Fr. John Russell, Fr. Sean Coghlan, Fr. Thomas Leung, Fr. Marciano Baptista and Fr. Stephen Chow. Depending on their health conditions and work schedules, we are hopeful that they all are able to come.


December, 2005

The graduating class 1964 has chosen IC2006 in Vancouver as their next class reunion venue. Please contact David Wong at wongtons@cogeco.ca for information. We acknowledge and encourage all graduating classes to choose Wah Yan IC2006 as the reunion venue.

The price on the activities has been confirmed and updated on the website. Please check out the new activities session of the IC2006 website for newer information.

We also encourage all participants to book the cruise before Decmber 31, 2005 to enjoy the special onbroad credit for your cruise bookings. Please check our cruise agent website at www.cruisesabroad.com/wahyancruise.htm for details.

Due to changes of ownership of the hotel, our committee decided to change our conference location to another hotel.  We are in progress on evaluating another hotel at this moment and more information of the new location will be posted on web in a week or two. 


August 31, 2005

During these few months, we have already set the basic of the activities for the participants of IC2006:

August 16 (Wed) Pre-conference trip to Whistler, the Winter Olympics 2010 venue where a variety of optional activities will be available (bus fare C$45). Followed by optional Japanese buffet.

August 17 (Thu) A.M. – P.M.: Greater Vancouver Academic Tour (visiting universities and other institutions; bus & light lunch C$55). Evening: Opening Reception of IC2006

August 18 (Fri) IC session 1 - Theme: Unforgettable Link between Wah Yan alumni and current Wah Yan. Focus: Dialogue on the improvement of education: Canadian and Hong Kong perspectives. IC session 2 - Theme: Unforgettable Link among Wah Yan alumni. Focus: The future development of Wah Yan alumni bodies around the world & selection of host city of IC 2008. City Tour for spouses and children during IC sessions (C$TBA, children C$TBA) Vancouver Harbor dinner cruise (C$71 including tax and gratuity, C$TBA for children)

August 19 (Sat) IC session 3 – Theme: Unforgettable Link between Wah Yan alumni and Wah Yan Spirit; Focus: Wah Yan alumni’s service to the community. IC session 4 - 華仁仔心聲, 華仁嫂感受; Content: An attempt to portray characteristics of Wahyanites from self and spousal perspectives. Gala Dinner (tentative venue: Hyatt Regency Hotel, cost: C$90 [adults], $50 [children])

August 20-26 (Sun-Sat) Cruise to Alaska (price: TBA)

May 18, 2005

The fifth organizing committee meeting was held at Kirin Restaurant.  The committee has picked Ramada Plaza in Richmond as our location for IC2006.  We are still in progress on negotiating a better deal for those who would like to stay in hotel there.  Official invitation letters will be sent to all chapters in June, and we will include as much information to everybody by then so you can book your holiday in advance.

Early registration will be started in early October (if not earlier) until the end of February.  All early registration will only be required to pay the $120 registration fee in advance.  All costs for the activities can be registered later before June.  The registration deadline will be on June 2006.


April 20, 2005

The forth organizing meeting was held at Fortune Restaurant.  The conference registration fee will be $180 each wahyanite (and $120 only if paid by June 15, 2006).  The registration fees includes breakfasts and lunches on both conference day.  Early registration by February 2006 will enter a free draw for special prizes and will be announced.  Pre-conference trip to Victoria will be $95 including lunch and all traveling costs and the other trip to Whistler will be $45 for traveling cost only.  Details on other trips will be provided by September 2005.  All prices are subject to change pending on confirmation from the travel agency, but will be firmed around September when the registration officially start.

Conference meeting has been extended from one and half day to two day, as we have many interesting and informative topics we would like to discuss at the conference. 

A sponsorship subcommittee has been form and invited Edmund Leung, William Cheuck, Raymond Yu and Joseph Hui as our member.  The new committee will look for appropriate honorary patrons, patrons and other sponsors for our IC2006. 

A new logo has been designed and the website is still in process.  The website will be done in May before the official announcement of the IC2006 to other chapters, targeting on last week of May.


March 20, 2005

The third organizing committee meeting was held at Fortune Restaurant again.  The preliminary budget has been presented.  As we need a lot of financial support to bring this event to success, several sponsorship package has been designed and the committee will start scouting for sponsor in coming months.  The pre-conference trip information has been found and will continue work on the details.

February 16, 2005

Second organizing committee meeting was held at Fortune Restaurant.  More concrete ideas of the conference topic have been discussed.  The conference location has been confirmed to stay in Richmond.  More researches on accommodations and tour package will be done and details will be available by March.


January 19, 2005

First organizing committee meeting was held at Fortune Restaurant.  All sub-committees were form at the meeting.

The pre-conference event will begin on Wednesday, August 16, 2006.  Activities will probably include group visits to Whistler, Victoria or other areas during the first 2 days. Conference meeting will begin on Friday, August 18, 2006.  Meeting will be held in the morning on both Friday, August 18, 2006 and Saturday, August 19, 2006. Each day of conference will be followed by a group lunch and an afternoon of family activities. Dinner Gala will be held in the evening on Saturday, August 19, 2006. Cruise trip will be organized as a post-conference event with the journey beginning on Sunday, August 20, 2006.

IC2006 organizing committee was formed.  Moses Lo and Edmund Leung has been appointed as co-chairmen of this event.
